Art in the city center - The galleries around Checkpoint Charlie
More than fifty international galleries and five major museums within a square kilometer at the heart of the capital: this is the Berlin Gallery District.
The area around Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin has become an important hub for contemporary art. Experienced curators, innovative gallerists and a critical mass of art enthusiasts have created a vibrant scene where the most up-to-date and important global trends are made tangible and where established artists are shown alongside young talent culled from Berlin’s rich artist community. This all takes place in the new city center, where history meets zeitgeist and transformation confronts tradition.
The Berlin Gallery District initiative will coordinate public relations for the district and its resident galleries and museums. A shared website will provide dates and information on exhibitions, while concurrent openings and special events will offer galleries, collectors, and audiences a professional and dynamic forum.
The Berlin Gallery District will celebrate the launch of this joint venture on Friday, September 10, 2010, starting at 6:00 p.m..
All the galleries and the major museums will be marking this special occasion and opening the autumn season together with special exhibition openings and extended opening hours
(until 9 p.m.).
